Mala from Nepal with Om beads
A beautiful Mala from Nepal of approximately 108 bone beads. The length is over 80 cm. An Om sign has been put on each of the beads. You can recite a mantra with every bead. Then, an Om bead is very useful.
Om is also called the primal sound that could be heard with the creation of the universe. This holy sound has grown to be a symbol on its own Aum (or Om, Devanagari, Chinese: ) is a mystical or holy syllable. It is placed at the beginning of most Hindu texts as holy exclamation that has to be uttered at the beginning and ending of a reading from the Vedas or of a prayer or mantra.
The Om mantra is the basis of many other mantras: Om mani padme hum: (I) honor the pearl in the lotus (wisdom) Om shanty : (I) wish (you) holy peace.
This is what Wikipedia states about the mala: The japa mala is usually made from 108 beads, though other numbers, usually divisible by 9, are also used.
Malas are used for keeping count while repeating a mantra. It is of course very suitable to provide a mala with the Om sign. Unique at Little Buddha.
